On August 15, 2006, the Big Ten Conference celebrated the 25th
anniversary of the inception of official league championships for
women's athletics. Use the drop-down menu to view a list of past
champions from a particular season over the past 25 years.
The conference’s oldest award, which was first given
in 1914, the Medal of Honor was expanded to include
a senior female athlete from each school in 1982.
In the past 25 years, the Big Ten has annually awarded select
student-athletes in each of its 13 sports as All-Conference honorees. A

SUCCESS IN THE CLASSROOM
The Big Ten prides itself for being a leader in the classroom. An
important conference objective is to develop the "student" in all
student-athletes and prepare them for continued future success off the
field.
Several Big Ten coaches, past and present, began their careers on the sideline after successful stints as a student-athlete. Today, a total of 32 former Big Ten student-athletes now lead by example as head coaches of women’s sports in the conference.
Over the past 25 years, the Big Ten has seen acclaimed success in each of its 13 current women’s sports.
Regardless of the sport, the Big Ten has had its share of dominant dynasties over the last quarter-century in women’s athletics.
