Tammy Willilams Named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I Player of the Week

Feb. 19, 2008

Northwestern junior shortstop Tammy Williams (Roscoe, Mo.) has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I Player of the Week for the week ending February 17, it was announced on Tuesday.

Williams batted .786 (11-for-14) in the event and scored eight runs in Northwestern's four games to reach 146 runs scored for her career, matching the NU all-time record set last season by Garland Cooper. Williams had a double, a home run, two walks (one intentional) and two steals at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz., recording a 1.071 slugging percentage and an .813 on-base percentage.

Northwestern went 4-0 on their opening weekend with wins against then-No. 1 Arizona and No. 3 Texas A&M. With their perfect start, the Wildcats moved up from No. 6 to No. 2 in the USA Today/NFCA Poll.

Williams earned base hits in her first six official at-bats of the season, with five of those six base knocks coming against 2007 NFCA All-Americans (Texas A&M's Amanda Scarborough and Arizona's Taryne Mowatt).
