Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament Blog - GAME 2

March 6, 2008

The second game will feature the No. 6 seed Indiana Hoosiers (17-13, 10-8 Big Ten) against the No. 11 seed Northwestern Wildcats (5-25, 1-17).

2:24 p.m. ET: Lineups are in, we are ready to go!

Indiana has opened up to a quick 5-0 start, with all points coming from junior forward Amber Jackson.

1st, 15:44, TIMEOUT (MEDIA): Indiana 9, Northwestern 4
Indiana's Amber Jackson has yet to be stopped. She has all nine of Indiana's points, including three boards.

1st, 13:21, TIMEOUT (NU): Indiana 17, Northwestern 6
Amber Jackson finally let someone else score for Indiana. Whtiney Lindsay scored her first points at the 14:52 mark on a jumper and the Hoosiers have continued to put points on the board.

1st, 10:49, TIMEOUT (IND): Indiana 22, Northwestern 10

1st, 10:04, TIMEOUT (MEDIA): Indiana 22, Northwestern 10

1st, 6:53, TIMEOUT (MEDIA): Indiana 25, Northwestern 14
These two teams have met only once in Big Ten Tournament history, which was all the way back in the very first event in 1995. The fifth-seeded Hoosiers beat No. 4 Northwestern, 77-75, in the quarterfinals. IU is playing extremely well right now, shooting 52.4 percent from the field and 40 percent from beyond the arc.

1st, 2:00, TIMEOUT (MEDIA): Indiana 31, Northwestern 22
Northwestern's Jenny Eckert has kept the Wildcats in the game, having already hit double-digit scoring with 10 points. She also has three rebounds and one assist.

HALFTIME: Indiana 38, Northwestern 24
Indiana is shooting 16-of-32 (.500) from the field and has taken a 14-point advantage into halftime. Amber Jackson leads all scorers with a game-high 13 points.

2nd, 11:24, TIMEOUT (MEDIA): Indiana 53, Northwestern 35
Sorry for the delay. We are back and Indiana has opened the second half by extending its lead. Should the Hoosiers continue the momentum, they could eclipse their record for largest winning margin, which is 22 (vs. MINN, 2001 1st round, 78-56). There is still a lot of ball to play...

2nd, 5:36: Indiana 66, Northwestern 44
The Hoosiers seems to have the game in hand. Amber Jackson, the star early on, has 14 points for Indiana.

2nd, 3:35, TIMEOUT (MEDIA): Indiana 71, Northwestern 48
We are at our last media timeout of regulation. With the win, Indiana will move on to face rival Purdue on Friday. The Hoosiers and Boilermakers have split the four games betweent the two teams in Big Ten Tournament history. Did you know that in the 13 editions of the tournament, one of the two teams have advanced to the championship final on 10 occasions, including nine of the last 10 years?

FINAL: Indiana 74, Northwestern 52
Indiana matches its Big Ten Tournament winning-margin record of 22 points with the 74-52 victory. The Hoosiers defeated Minnesota in the first round of the 2001 tournament, 78-56. That game also marked the Hoosiers' highest-scoring output in the tournament. The 74 points they scored today are the team's highest total since they fell 75-74 to Wisconsin in double overtime of the 2005 tournament opener.
