Jan. 29, 2008

Men's Track Co-Athletes of the Week

Samuel Borchers, Penn State
Fr., Yellow Springs, Ohio/Yellow Springs
Borchers arrived on the national collegiate scene Saturday, at the Penn State National, breaking the Nittany Lion mile school record in a time of 4:01.98.  This mark provisionally qualifies the freshman for the NCAA indoor meet in March and serves as the fourth-fastest time by a collegian this year.  Borchers garners his first career weekly award.

Last PSU Track Athlete of the Week: Ryan Fritz (2/13/07)

Shane Crawford, Purdue
Fr., Winamac, Ind./Winamac
Crawford matched the NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the 60-meter dash this weekend, breaking the tape at 6.74.  The freshman has the second-fastest time in the Big Ten and sits third on Purdue's all-time performance list.  Crawford picks up his first career weekly award.

Last PUR Track Athlete of the Week: Kenneth Baxter (1/28/03)

Men's Field Athlete of the Week

Chris Thoman, Purdue
Fr., Indianapolis, Ind./North Central
Thoman cleared a career-best 16-06.75 (5.05m) in the pole vault, claiming first place just missing the NCAA provisional qualifying mark by six inches.  The freshman's win aided the Boilermakers in their victory at the 13th Annual Gene Edmonds Cup.  Thoman takes home his first career Field Athlete of the Week laurel.

Last PUR Field Athlete of the Week: Jon Pullum (1/22/08)
